Frank began tinkering with the mechanical pianos in the early 1950's, while learning to drive in a 1948 Chevrolet, three-quarter ton pickup: which he still has and drives today.
He attended Claremont Men's College and graduated with a BA degree in business economics in 1960. During his time in college, he began sailing and taught and certified scuba divers for the L.A. Department of Parks & Recreation. After college he spent eight years with Security Bank as auditor and assistant manager, at which time he became married and still is to Betty.
